MP Mathyssen's Statement on F-35 Fighter Jet Purchase

As the NDP's critic for defence, I'm disappointed by another broken promise announced today.

In 2015, Trudeau promised to scrap the F-35 fighter jet and purchase one of the many lower priced options to better serve Canada's defence needs.

While refusing to invest in protecting our public healthcare system, Trudeau is taking on a $70 billion cost for the F-35's.

These will be manufactured outside Canada and unlikely to create any Canadian jobs.

The Liberals have once again shown they aren't interested in getting the best value or investing in Canadians.

In October, I put forward my Made In Canada Bill C-300 C-300 (44-1) - LEGISinfo - Parliament of Canada to give Canadian workers an advantage in federal procurement. We need to ensure that government is spending Canadian's money wisely and investing it in Canadians.
